This Weekend

Well, I don't think we got everything done on the 'to-do' list, but we gave it the old college try.

Yesterday we went over to the house early to meet the plumber to get the gas line moved. We went through Len the Plumber. The guy was really friendly and got the job done pretty quick. Meanwhile I worked on taking out the old shower stall and Tony worked on the shed. I tried playing nice with the shower and unscrewing it, but it ultimately came down to (like most things in the house) smacking it with a sledge hammer. The shower stall in now done, except for the base which did not respond to sledge hammer smacking.

Between yesterday and today Tony got most of the crap out of the shed. We ran out of room in the dumpster, unfortunately. So there are a few big things in the back yard, including the rusty shed, which will have to go in the next one when we get the basement sorted. At least we got the brunt on the trash in there, including the cast iron heater, which also was smacked by a sledge hammer into bite-sized dumpster pieces.

We couldn't prime the walls this weekend. Turns out we've gone another week with Sam not doing his part. And now its time for:

Sam's Excuse for the Week

This week's excuse: Sam had a stroke. Yeah, he said he went out one day and then woke up in the hospital. I guess I believe him, because Tony gave him a ride to the store to get pills, but its getting old.

We also ordered the floor. I wish I would have taken a picture of it because I can't find a picture online. Oh well. After sweat, tears and a little confusion, we finally (and accurately) got the measurements we needed. So that should arrive in about a week. The tears came up because we discovered that the board Sam put in incorrectly can't be used. Its a few inches short. If he put it in there The cabinets would cover one of the air vents. It was a the perfect end of a long, frustrating day really.

This morning we made a trip to Home Depot to get some stuff for the tile glue remover. Just standard stuff, push broom, mop, face masks, meat smoker/charcoal grill.... Okay, so we may have made an impulsive buy. Anyway, after spending the last few hours pulling up more tiles and using a few gallons of elbow (really shoulder) grease most of the floor tiles are up. There are only a few small spots left. The glue remover worked sub-par. If took up a bit in the kitchen, but will need at least 2 or 3 more applications. I used most of it already though :( It came up better in the hall, but I think that's cause I gave it more time there. Guess I shouldn't have followed the directions and gave it two hours to work instead of one. Silly me. That floor has been a long, hard, painful process.
